Farmers
Roughly 23 percent of the land in the watershed is dedicated to agriculture and livestock production. Farmers offer a major service to communities in the basin by providing them with food, but these services don’t have to come at the cost of degrading the natural resources that we all depend on.
These farms can continue providing communities with food while also implementing practices that limit the amount of nutrients entering the Cape Fear. This can be achieved by collaborating with conservation organizations that focus on establishing better management practices and/or by working with state and federal agencies that offer cost share for implementing such practices.
How can you help?
Farmers can partner with conservation organizations or state and federal agencies in introducing better management practices on their land that limits the amount of nutrients entering the river.
